球と sphere
Sphere: surface or solid
IM Geometry・CK-12 Geometry 9.5・OpenStax Calculus Volume 3 の定義では sphere は表面（日本語の球面）。ただし the volume of a sphere のように、中身を含む立体（日本語の球）にも sphere と言う（CK-12 Geometry 9.2 は sphere を立体と書く）。
日本
中学校学習指導要領解説（第1学年 図形）は、球を柱体・錐体と並ぶ空間図形として扱い、球の表面積と体積を求める（解説に「球面」は出てこない）。日本語版 Wikipedia「球」は、数学の球を「球体（ball）または球面（sphere）」と書く。
米国
IM Geometry（5.2 Slicing Solids）・CK-12 Geometry（9.5 Volume）・OpenStax Calculus Volume 3（2.2 Vectors in Three Dimensions）は、sphere を中心から等しい距離にある空間の点の集まり（表面）と定義し、CK-12 Geometry 9.5 は同じ節で the volume of a sphere を求める。CK-12 Geometry 9.2 は sphere を a round, three-dimensional solid とも書く。
