不等式の表す領域と、そうでない部分を分ける線。不等号に等号が入るとき、境界線は領域に含まれる。
The line (or curve) that separates the region of an inequality from the rest; it belongs to the region when the inequality includes equality.
例文
話し言葉 It's strictly less than, so draw the boundary line dashed. 等号が入らない「より小さい」なので、境界線は点線で描く。
書き言葉・答案 Shade the region y > x² − 1. Is the boundary included? 領域 y > x² − 1 を図示せよ。境界線は含むか。

- 共通テストの問題文は、領域の図に「ただし，境界線を含まない」と添える（令和 8 年度 本試験 数学II，数学B，数学C 第 1 問。令和 6 年度 本試験 数学II 第 1 問は「境界（境界線）は含まない」）。IM Algebra 1（2.21）と OpenStax Elementary Algebra（4.7）は、境界線を含むかどうかをグラフの実線（solid line）と点線（dashed line）で描き分ける。言葉では the boundary is (not) included（OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry 11.3）。
