if S is a nonempty subset of the natural numbers, then S has a least element
The principle that every nonempty set of positive integers has a smallest element. It is equivalent to induction and is used in proofs that pick a smallest counterexample.
Suppose there's a counterexample. By the well-ordering principle, there has to be a smallest one, so let's call it n.
Use the well-ordering principle to prove that every integer n ≥ 2 has a prime factor.
