正多角形の中心から 1 辺に下ろした垂線の長さ。正多角形の内接円の半径に等しい。
The distance from the center of a regular polygon to any of its sides, measured along a perpendicular. It equals the radius of the polygon's inscribed circle.
例文
話し言葉 The apothem goes from the center straight to the middle of a side, so it makes a right angle with that side. 辺心距離は中心から辺のまん中までまっすぐ引いた線だから、その辺と直角に交わる。
書き言葉・答案 A regular hexagon has side length 8. Find the apothem. 1 辺の長さが 8 の正六角形の辺心距離を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 辺心距離は正多角形の内接円の半径と同じ長さ。日本の問題で「内接円の半径」と書かれている長さが、英語の apothem にあたることがある。
- apothem（中心から辺まで）と radius（中心から頂点まで）を取り違えない。正六角形では radius は 1 辺の長さと等しく、apothem は 1 辺の (√3/2) 倍。
- CK-12 Geometry では 5.21 Area of Regular and Irregular Polygons に 19 件。用例コーパスにはほとんど出てこない。
