日本語の「偏る」は分布の形にも標本の選び方にも使う。英語は分布の形なら skewed（skewed right ／ skewed left）、標本の選び方なら biased と言い分ける。
定義
分布の形が左右対称でなく、一方に長い裾を引いていること。裾が右に長いものを右に歪んだ（skewed right）分布という。
Of a distribution: not symmetric, with a long tail on one side; skewed right when the long tail is on the right.
例文
話し言葉 The income data are skewed right, so the mean is pulled up above the median. 収入のデータは右に歪んでいるので、平均値が中央値より大きくなる。
書き言葉・答案 Is the distribution symmetric, skewed left, or skewed right? 分布は左右対称か、左に歪んでいるか、右に歪んでいるか。

言い間違えやすいところ
- skewed right は裾（tail）が右に長い分布で、山は左にある。山の位置で左右を決めない。
- 空間の skew lines（ねじれの位置にある 2 直線）と同じ語。用例コーパスの書き言葉でも、文脈を見ると一部がこの意味だった。
