定義

x と y の関係を満たす点 (x, y) を、座標平面上に集めてできる図。関数で y が x につれてどう変わるかが、目で見て分かる。

All the points (x, y) of the coordinate plane whose coordinates satisfy an equation or a function, drawn as one picture. It shows how y changes with x.

例文

話し言葉 The graph of y = 2x is a straight line through the origin: every time you go right 1, it goes up 2. y = 2x のグラフは原点を通る直線で、右に 1 進むごとに 2 上がる。

書き言葉・答案 The graph of y = a/x passes through the point (2, 6). Find the value of a. y = a/x のグラフが点 (2, 6) を通るとき、a の値を求めよ。

言い間違えやすいところ

「y = 2x のグラフ」は the graph of y = 2x。前置詞は of を使う。
同じ graph が動詞で「グラフをかく」の意味になる（Graph y = 2x − 1.）。エントリ draw-a-graph。
離散数学の graph（頂点と辺でできた図、エントリ graph-network）も同じ語で、別の概念。
