現実の現象を、式やグラフなどの数学の言葉で表したもの。そう表すことをモデル化という。

例文
話し言葉 The exponential model fits the early data well, but it can't keep going forever. 指数関数のモデルは初めのデータにはよく合うが、いつまでも続くわけではない。

言い間違えやすいところ
- IM Algebra 1（3.4 Linear Models、5.11 Modeling Exponential Behavior）と OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry（4.3・6.7）は、linear model・exponential model のように種類を付けて model と言い、作ることを modeling（モデル化）と言う。
- データに当てはめる（fit the data）モデルは、回帰直線（regression line）や指数関数のモデル（exponential model）など。
