数や文字を長方形に並べ、かっこでくくったもの。横の並びを行、縦の並びを列という。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 複数形は matrices（matrix の不規則な複数形）。
- m × n 行列は m by n matrix と読む（用例コーパスの話し言葉でも two by two はよく出てくる）。
