4 つの辺の長さがすべて等しく、4 つの角がすべて直角である四角形。長方形でもあり、ひし形でもある。

A quadrilateral whose four sides are equal and whose four angles are right angles. Every square is both a rectangle and a rhombus.

言い間違えやすいところ

英語の square は、数の 2 乗・平方（エントリ square）と同じ語。1 辺が s の正方形の面積は s² で、s squared と読む。
「四角形」は quadrilateral（エントリ quadrilateral）で、square ではない。square は 4 つの辺と 4 つの角がすべてそろった正方形だけを指す。
面積の単位 cm² は square centimeters と読む（エントリ square-units）。
