A pattern of one or more shapes that covers a plane with no gaps and no overlaps. The word also names the act of covering the plane this way.
例文
話し言葉 Six equilateral triangles fit around a point with no gaps, because six times 60 is 360, so they make a tessellation. 正三角形は 1 点のまわりに 6 つすき間なく集まる。60° の 6 倍が 360° だからだ。だから平面を敷き詰められる。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 動詞は tessellate（敷き詰める）。Does this shape tessellate? のように、図形を主語にして使う。
- 正多角形 1 種類で敷き詰められるのは正三角形・正方形・正六角形だけ。1 つの頂点に集まる角の和が 360° になるかで説明する。
- 用例コーパスには話・書とも出てこない。IM では 45 件（Grade 8 9.1 Tessellations of the Plane 13 ほか）、CK-12 Geometry では 8.19 Tessellations に 12 件。
