Gauss bracket and floor function
英語で [x] を使うなら、OpenStax Calculus Volume 2 のように the greatest integer less than or equal to x と断る。記号で書くなら ⌊x⌋ にし（OpenStax Calculus Volume 1 の floor function）、the floor of x と読む。
日本
日本語版 Wikipedia「床関数と天井関数」は、x を超えない最大の整数を表す記号のうち [x] をガウス記号と呼び、日本の高校数学と大学入試ではほとんどガウス記号を使うと書く。
米国
OpenStax Calculus Volume 1 は ⌊x⌋ を floor function と呼んで x 以下の最大の整数と定義を添え（4.4 The Mean Value Theorem の練習問題）、ceiling function の名前も使う（2.5 The Precise Definition of a Limit の練習問題）。Volume 2 は [x] を使うときに the greatest integer less than or equal to x と断る（5.6 Ratio and Root Tests の練習問題）。英語版 Wikipedia「Floor and ceiling functions」は [x] と ⌊x⌋ の両方が使われると書く。
