連立一次方程式を行階段形にしたとき、ピボットのある列に対応する変数。自由変数を使って表される。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 教科書により呼び方が違う: MIT 18.06 は pivot variable、Nicholson は leading variable。basic variable は用例コーパスに出てこない（線形計画法の基底変数も basic variable と言う）。
