解の吟味

名詞 ・書き言葉・答案 別の言い方 check that the answer is reasonable
「解の吟味」に当たる 1 語の名詞は用例コーパスと参照に出てこず、Does the answer make sense? ／ Is the answer reasonable? と問いの形で言うか、check that the answer makes sense のように動詞句で言う。
定義
文章題で求めた方程式の解が、問題の条件（個数や人数は自然数、長さは正の数など）に合っているかを確かめること。合わない解は問題の答えにしない。
Checking whether a solution of the equation fits the situation in the word problem, for example that a number of people is a positive whole number or that a length is positive. A solution that does not fit is not used as the answer.
例文
話し言葉 Before you box your answer, check that the answer makes sense: you can't have negative 3 students. 答えを囲む前に解の吟味をしよう。生徒が −3 人なんてありえないよね。
話し言葉 We got 4.5 buses, so check that the answer is reasonable: can you rent half a bus? バスが 4.5 台と出たから、解の吟味をしよう。バスを半台だけ借りられる？
書き言葉・答案 Let the side length of a square with area 49 cm² be x cm. Solve x² = 49 and check that the answer makes sense. 面積が 49 cm² の正方形の 1 辺の長さを x cm とする。x² = 49 を解き、解の吟味をせよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 「吟味」に当たる 1 語の名詞は用例コーパスと参照に出てこない。Does the answer make sense? ／ Is the answer reasonable? のように問いの形で言う。
- 解を元の式に代入して成り立つかを確かめる検算（エントリ check）とは別。吟味では、式の上では正しい解が問題の条件（人数は自然数、長さは正など）に合うかを見る。
