棄却されない

日本の教科書は「棄却されない」「棄却できない」と受け身・可能で書くが、英語は主語を we にして fail to reject（話し言葉）／ do not reject（書き言葉）と言う。
場面で変わる言い方
- do not reject
- 書き言葉・答案 話し言葉にはほとんど出てこない。書き言葉では fail to reject よりずっと多い（すべて OpenStax Introductory Statistics）。
定義
仮説検定で、データが帰無仮説を否定するのに十分でなく、帰無仮説を棄却しないこと。
In a hypothesis test, not rejecting the null hypothesis because the data do not give enough evidence against it.
例文
話し言葉 The p-value is 0.2, which is bigger than alpha, so we fail to reject the null. p 値は 0.2 で α より大きいので、帰無仮説は棄却されない。
書き言葉・答案 At the 5% level, do not reject H₀; there is not sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean has changed. 有意水準 5% で H₀ は棄却されない。平均が変わったと結論する十分な証拠はない。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 帰無仮説が正しいと証明されたわけではないので、accept the null hypothesis とは言わない（用例コーパスでも accept the null はほとんど出てこない）。
