日本語の「向き」は一般語で、媒介変数表示の曲線が t の増加とともに進む向きにも、ベクトルの向きにも使う。英語の orientation は曲線（や曲面）の進む向きに限って使い、ベクトルの向きは direction。
定義
媒介変数表示の曲線で、媒介変数 t が増えるときに点が進む向き。

例文
話し言葉 Put arrows on the curve to show the orientation — which way it goes as t increases. 曲線に矢印をかいて向きを示そう。t が増えるとどちらへ進むか。
