x と y をそれぞれ別の変数（t など）の式で表すときの、その変数。
An extra variable, often t, in terms of which both x and y are written.
例文
話し言葉 Here t is the parameter. As t goes from 0 to 2π, the point goes once around the circle. ここでは t が媒介変数。t が 0 から 2π まで動くと、点は円を 1 周する。
書き言葉・答案 Eliminate the parameter to find an equation of the curve in x and y. 媒介変数を消去して、曲線の方程式を x と y で表せ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 英語の parameter は、統計の母数（population parameter）や、式に含まれる定数（y = ax² の a）も指す。「媒介変数」の意味のときは parametric equations の文脈で使う。
