定義
近似値が真の値より大きいこと（過大評価）と小さいこと（過小評価）。リーマン和などの誤差の向きを言う。
Whether an approximation comes out above the true value (overestimate) or below it (underestimate), as with Riemann sums.
例文
話し言葉 f is decreasing, so the left sum is an overestimate and the right sum is an underestimate. f は減少関数だから、左の和は過大評価、右の和は過小評価になる。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 英語では動詞としても使う（The left sum overestimates the integral. ＝ 左の和は積分を多めに見積もる）。「評価」と訳さず「多めの見積もり」と考えると分かりやすい。
