合同な 2 つの多角形を底面とし、長方形の側面で囲まれた立体。底面の形によって三角柱、四角柱などと呼ぶ。
A solid with two congruent, parallel polygon bases joined by rectangular faces. It is named by the shape of its bases, as in a triangular prism.
例文
話し言葉 For any prism, find the area of the base first, then multiply by the height. 角柱ならどれでも、まず底面積を求めて、それに高さをかければいい。
書き言葉・答案 The base of a triangular prism is a right triangle with legs of 6 cm and 8 cm, and the height of the prism is 10 cm. Find the volume of the prism. 底面が、直角をはさむ 2 辺の長さが 6 cm、8 cm の直角三角形で、高さが 10 cm の三角柱の体積を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- V = Bh の B（大文字）は底面積（area of the base）。三角形の面積の公式 A = ½bh の b（底辺の長さ）とは別。
- 角柱の名前は底面の形を前に付けて言う。三角柱は triangular prism、直方体は rectangular prism。
- prism は光を分ける「プリズム」と同じ語。
