角柱・角錐・円柱・円錐などの、底面 1 つの面積。角柱や円柱の体積は、底面積 × 高さで求められる。
The area of one base of a solid such as a prism, pyramid, cylinder, or cone. In formulas it is written as a capital B, as in V = Bh.

言い間違えやすいところ
- 日本語版 Wikipedia「角錐」は底面積を S として V = Sh/3 と書くが、英語の公式では大文字の B を使う（V = Bh）。小文字の b は三角形などの底辺の長さ（A = ½bh）なので区別する。
- 角柱・円柱は底面が 2 つあるが、V = Bh の B は 1 つ分の面積。表面積を求めるときは底面積を 2 倍する。
- 底面は base（2 つなら bases）。英語の base は三角形の底辺や、累乗の底（エントリ base-of-a-power）にも使う。
