標本から計算した統計量（標本平均など）の標準偏差。標本平均では σ/√n、σ がわからないときは s/√n で見積もる。
The standard deviation of a statistic computed from a sample, such as the sample mean: σ/√n, estimated by s/√n when σ is unknown.
例文
話し言葉 The standard error tells you how much the sample mean bounces around from sample to sample. 標準誤差は、標本平均が標本ごとにどれだけぶれるかを表す。
書き言葉・答案 Compute the standard error of the mean for a sample of size 49 with s = 14. 大きさ 49、s = 14 の標本について、平均の標準誤差を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- standard deviation（データの散らばり）と standard error（統計量のぶれ）は別。
- 標本平均の標準誤差は standard error of the mean（用例コーパスにも出てくる）。
