観測した結果が偶然だけでは起こりにくい（p 値が有意水準より小さい）こと。
Of a result: unlikely to have happened by chance alone, so that the p-value is below the significance level.
例文
話し言葉 The difference is statistically significant, so it's probably not just chance. 差は統計的に有意なので、たぶん偶然ではない。
書き言葉・答案 Is the result statistically significant at the 1% level? Explain. 結果は有意水準 1% で有意か。説明せよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 「有意」は重要という意味ではない。統計的に有意でも、差が小さく実用上は意味がないこともある。
