OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry（5.2・5.4・5.5）と Elementary Algebra（6.1・6.6・7.3）は written in descending order ／ in descending order of degrees と書く。OpenStax Elementary Algebra 6.1・Intermediate Algebra 5.1・Prealgebra 10.1 は、次数の高い順に並べた多項式を standard form（standard form of a polynomial）と定義し、IM Algebra 2 2.6 Different Forms も同じ（Algebra and Trigonometry 5.2 は general form）。

多項式の項を、ある文字についての次数が高いものから低いものへ順に並べ直す。
To arrange the terms of a polynomial from the highest power of a chosen variable down to the lowest.
例文
話し言葉 Let's write it in descending order first, so the x cubed term goes in front. まず降べきの順に整理しよう。x³ の項が先頭に来る。
書き言葉・答案 Write 3x − 5 + 2x³ − x² in descending order. 3x − 5 + 2x³ − x² を降べきの順に整理せよ。
書き言葉・答案 Write x² + 3xy − 2y² + x − 4y in descending order of powers of x, grouping the terms with the same power of x. x² + 3xy − 2y² + x − 4y を x について降べきの順に整理せよ。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 「x について整理する」では x 以外の文字を係数とみなし、x の次数ごとにまとめる：x² + (3y + 1)x − (2y² + 4y)。
- 日本語の「整理する」は同類項をまとめること（combine like terms）も含む。並べるだけの「降べきの順」と分けて考える。
- 逆の、次数の低い順は昇べきの順（エントリ ascending-order）。
