定義
点の座標 (x, y) の 2 つ目の数。点が原点から上（正）または下（負）にどれだけの位置にあるかを表す。
In an ordered pair (x, y), the number written second. It tells how far above (positive) or below (negative) the origin the point is.
例文
話し言葉 The y-coordinate is negative 2, so from there you go down 2. y 座標が −2 だから、そこから下に 2 進むよ。
書き言葉・答案 The point (4, k) lies on the line y = 3x − 5. Find its y-coordinate k. 点 (4, k) は直線 y = 3x − 5 上にある。この点の y 座標 k を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 関数では、x = a のときの y の値が、グラフ上の点の y 座標になる（エントリ value-of-the-function）。
- x 軸上の点は y 座標が 0。x 軸との交点を求めるときは y = 0 とおく（エントリ x-intercept）。
