f(x) = |x| と、それを平行移動・拡大した f(x) = a|x − h| + k の形の関数。グラフは V 字形で、頂点は (h, k)。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 英語では |x| を the absolute value of x と読む。f(x) = |x − 2| は f of x equals the absolute value of x minus 2。
- 頂点 (h, k) の h は、絶対値の中の符号と逆になる。f(x) = |x + 3| − 1 の頂点は (−3, −1)。
- a < 0 のとき、グラフは上下が逆の V 字（頂点が最も高い点）になる。
