角をつくる 2 辺の共通の端点、多角形・多面体の辺が集まる点。また、放物線と軸の交点。

例文
話し言葉 The vertex of this parabola is at (2, −1), and it opens up, so that's the minimum. この放物線の頂点は (2, −1) で、下に凸だから、そこが最小値だね。
書き言葉・答案 Find the vertex of the parabola y = x² − 4x + 3. 放物線 y = x² − 4x + 3 の頂点を求めよ。
書き言葉・答案 A triangle has three vertices, and the sum of its interior angles is 180°. 三角形には頂点が 3 つあり、内角の和は 180° である。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 複数形は vertices（ヴァーティシーズ）。三角形の頂点を指すときも the vertices of the triangle と複数形になる。
- グラフ理論（点と辺のグラフ）の頂点も vertex だが、意味が違うので別のエントリ（頂点（グラフ））にした。
- 放物線の頂点は、平方完成して y = a(x − h)² + k の形にしたときの (h, k)。x 座標は −b/(2a) でも求められる。
