OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry も piecewise function として扱う。
f of x equals x plus one when x is less than zero, and x squared when x is greater than or equal to zero
A function defined by different formulas on different parts of its domain. It is written with a brace that lists each formula next to the interval where it applies.
This is a piecewise function, so before you plug in, check which piece your x-value falls in.
For the piecewise function f(x) = {x + 1 if x < 0, x² if x ≥ 0}, find f(−3) and f(2).
- piece は「部分」という意味で、式と範囲の 1 組 1 組を piece と呼ぶ(the first piece、the second piece)。
