日本語版 Wikipedia「数学的帰納法」は手順を番号で書くだけでこの段に名前をつけず、「多項定理」などの証明は「n=1 のとき」と書き出す。英語では base case と名前で呼ぶ（英語版 Wikipedia「Mathematical induction」）。見出しの「n=1 のとき」は答案の書き方。
定義
数学的帰納法の最初の段。最初の値（ふつう n = 1）で成り立つことを確かめる。
The first step of a proof by induction: checking the statement for the first value, usually n = 1.
例文
話し言葉 The base case is easy: when n equals 1, both sides are 1. n = 1 のときは簡単。両辺とも 1 になる。
書き言葉・答案 Base case: when n = 1, the left side is 1 and the right side is 1(1 + 1)/2 = 1. [1] n = 1 のとき、左辺は 1、右辺は 1(1 + 1)/2 = 1。
