定義
ある地点から見た方向を、北を基準に測った角度で表したもの。北から時計回りに測る表し方（120° など）と、N 15° E のように南北から東西へ測る表し方がある。
A direction given as an angle measured from north, either clockwise from north (a bearing of 120°) or from north or south toward east or west (N 15° E).
例文
話し言葉 A bearing of 120 degrees means you face north and turn 120 degrees clockwise. 方位 120° とは、北を向いてから時計回りに 120° 回った方向のことだ。
書き言葉・答案 A ship leaves port on a bearing of 60° and travels 12 km. How far east of the port is the ship? 船が港から北から東へ 60° の方向に 12 km 進んだ。船は港から東へ何 km のところにいるか。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 方位のうち東西南北のような向きの名前（compass directions）は bearing ではない。bearing は北から測った角度で方向を表したもの。
- N 15° E は北から東へ 15° の方向。OpenStax Calculus Volume 3 は a bearing of N 15 E とも書き、OpenStax は 52° east of north のように向きを書くこともある。
