To multiply every x-coordinate of a graph by 1/b (b > 1), squeezing it toward the y-axis; y = f(x) becomes y = f(bx).
例文

言い間違えやすいところ
- 中の係数は外の係数と逆に働く（f(2x) は縦ではなく横に 1/2 倍）。
- 名詞の言い方 horizontal compression は書き言葉（OpenStax）に多い。動詞の形は書き言葉でも少ない。
- f(bx) の横の縮小を何倍と書くかは資料で逆になる。IM Algebra 2（5.9 Scaling the Inputs）は f(2t) を compressed horizontally by a factor of 1/2、OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry（Transformation of Functions）は |−4x| を horizontally compressed by a factor of 1/4 と書き、OpenStax Calculus Volume 1（1.3 Trigonometric Functions）は sin(4x) を compressed horizontally by a factor of 4 と書く。
