見出しの「単調に減少する」は学習指導要領解説に無い（日本語版 Wikipedia には「単調減少」がある）。「右下がり」（1 次関数のグラフ）にも当たるが、英語ではグラフの形ではなく関数の性質（is decreasing）か傾きの符号で言う。
定義
x が増えると、関数の値が必ず減る。1 次関数ではグラフが右下がりになること（傾きが負）。
Of a function: its value goes down whenever x goes up; for a linear function, the graph falls from left to right (negative slope).
例文
話し言葉 Since the base is between 0 and 1, the function is decreasing. 底が 0 と 1 の間なので、この関数は減少する。
書き言葉・答案 Show that f(x) = (1/2)^x is decreasing on the whole real line. f(x) = (1/2)^x が実数全体で減少することを示せ。

- 「右下がり」は英語では falls from left to right、または the slope is negative と言う。
