68-95-99.7 rule
For a bell-shaped, approximately normal distribution, about 68% of the data fall within one standard deviation of the mean, about 95% within two, and about 99.7% within three.
The heights are roughly bell-shaped, so by the empirical rule about 95% of them are within two standard deviations of the mean.
Test scores are approximately normal with a mean of 70 and a standard deviation of 8. Use the empirical rule to estimate the percentage of scores between 62 and 78.
