座標平面上の直線を表す x, y の 1 次方程式。傾きと通る点、または通る 2 点から求める。
A first-degree equation in x and y whose graph is a given line, found from its slope and a point, or from two points.
例文
話し言葉 Once you have the slope and a point, you can write the equation of the line. 傾きと 1 点がわかれば直線の式が書ける。
書き言葉・答案 Find the equation of the line passing through (1, −2) and (3, 4). 2 点 (1, −2), (3, 4) を通る直線の方程式を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 冠詞だけの違いの equation of the line もよく使う（話し言葉では見出しの a と同じくらい、書き言葉では a のほうが多い）。
- OpenStax（Algebra and Trigonometry・Elementary Algebra ほか）と IM は、直線の式の形に名前をつけて呼ぶ: slope-intercept form（y = mx + b。OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry 54 件・IM 8 件）、point-slope form（y − y₁ = m(x − x₁)。12 件・21 件）、standard form（Ax + By = C）。
