目盛りが 1 つ進むごとに、値が一定の倍率（10 倍など）で大きくなる目盛り。とても大きな範囲の量を短い目盛りに収められる。
A scale on which each step up multiplies the value by the same factor, such as 10, instead of adding the same amount. It fits a very wide range of values onto a short scale.
例文
話し言葉 The Richter scale is a logarithmic scale, so going up by 1 means the shaking is 10 times bigger. マグニチュードは対数目盛だから、1 上がると揺れは 10 倍になる。

言い間違えやすいところ
- マグニチュードが 1 大きいと振幅は 10 倍、2 大きいと 100 倍になる（20 倍ではない）。目盛りの差は倍率の指数になる。
- log scale とも言う。pH や音の大きさ（デシベル）も対数目盛の例。
- 目盛りの数字は等間隔に並ぶが、表す値は等間隔ではない。目盛りの値を引き算しても、もとの量の差にはならない。
