立体の表面を切り開いて、平面の上に広げた図。組み立てるともとの立体になる。
A flat figure you get by cutting open the surface of a solid and laying it out in a plane. Folding it back up gives the original solid.
例文
話し言葉 Here's the net of a cube: six squares, and when you fold it up, you get a box. これが立方体の展開図。正方形が 6 つあって、折りたたむと箱になる。
書き言葉・答案 The net of a square pyramid is made up of a square with a side length of 4 cm and four triangles, each with a height of 6 cm. Find the area of the net. 正四角錐の展開図は、1 辺 4 cm の正方形 1 つと、高さ 6 cm の三角形 4 つでできている。この展開図の面積を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- net は日常語の「網」でもあり、「正味の・差し引きの」の意味（net change、エントリ net-change）でも使う。展開図とは別の意味。
- 1 つの立体の展開図は 1 通りとは限らない。立方体の展開図は 11 通りある。
- 球の表面は平面に広げられないので、球には展開図がない。
