垂線の公準

見出しの「垂線の公準」は学習指導要領解説に無い、本プロジェクトの訳語。日本の教科書は「直線外の 1 点を通る垂線はただ 1 本」を公準として立てない（作図で扱う）。
定義
直線 ℓ 上にない点 P を通り、ℓ に垂直な直線はちょうど 1 本ある、という公準。
The postulate that through a point not on a line, there is exactly one line perpendicular to the given line.
例文
話し言葉 From P there's exactly one perpendicular to line ℓ — that's the perpendicular postulate — and its length is the distance from P to the line. P から直線 ℓ に引ける垂線はちょうど 1 本。これが垂線の公準で、その長さが P と直線の距離になる。
書き言葉・答案 Point P is not on line ℓ. Explain why there cannot be two different lines through P that are both perpendicular to ℓ. 点 P は直線 ℓ 上にない。P を通り ℓ に垂直な直線が 2 本あり得ない理由を説明せよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 平行線の公準（parallel postulate）は「直線外の 1 点を通り、その直線に平行な直線はただ 1 本」で、別の公準。
- 用例コーパスにも IM にも perpendicular postulate は出てこない。
根拠の件数
用例コーパスで数えた件数はありません（数えない言い方か、どの取得元にも出てこなかった言い方です）。
