定義

真であるとわかっている前提から、どのような結論を正しく導けるかを定めた推論の型のこと。肯定式や三段論法などがある。

The valid patterns of reasoning that let you draw a conclusion from premises already known to be true. Examples include the law of detachment and the law of syllogism.

例文

話し言葉 Every line of the proof has to follow from earlier lines by one of the rules of inference. 証明のどの行も、前の行から推論規則のどれかで導かれていなければならない。

言い間違えやすいところ

複数形の rules of inference は規則の集まり全体を指す。1 つの規則は a rule of inference（inference rule）と言う。
英語の inference は統計の「推測」（statistical inference）にも使うので、論理の話か統計の話かを文脈で見分ける。
用例コーパスでは書き言葉に inference rule が少しある（すべて MIT の講義ノート）だけで、rules of inference は出てこない。話し言葉にはどちらも出てこない。
