小数点以下の数字が、ある位で終わる小数。0.25 や 1.375 などで、有限小数は分数で表せる数（有理数）である。

言い間違えやすいところ
- terminate は「終わる」という意味の動詞。terminating decimal は「桁がそこで終わる小数」という言い方で、「有限」に当たる語は入っていない。
- 有理数を小数で表すと、有限小数か循環小数（repeating decimal、エントリ repeating-decimal）のどちらかになる。有限小数でない小数は無限小数（エントリ non-terminating-decimal）。
- 既約分数が有限小数になるのは、分母の素因数が 2 と 5 だけのとき（3/8 = 0.375、7/20 = 0.35）。5/12 のように分母に 3 などの素因数があると循環小数になる。
