定義
直角三角形で、注目する鋭角 θ をはさむ 2 辺のうち、斜辺でない方の辺。
In a right triangle, the side next to the acute angle θ that is not the hypotenuse.
例文
話し言葉 The adjacent side is the leg touching the angle, and remember, it's never the hypotenuse. 隣辺は角に接している方の辺で、斜辺は隣辺にならないことに注意。
書き言葉・答案 In a right triangle, the adjacent side to angle θ is 12 and the hypotenuse is 13. Find cos θ and tan θ. 直角三角形で、角 θ の隣辺が 12、斜辺が 13 のとき、cos θ と tan θ の値を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 隣辺はどの角から見るかで決まる。もう一方の鋭角から見ると、隣辺と対辺が入れ替わる。
- adjacent sides は多角形の「隣り合う辺」の意味にも使う（平行四辺形の隣り合う 2 辺など）。IM Geometry は adjacent leg（4.6 ほか）、OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は the side adjacent to the angle と言う。
