学習指導要領解説（数学II）は、導関数でグラフの概形を調べて区間が制限された関数の最大値や最小値を考察すると書くが、端点と臨界点での値を比べて最大値・最小値を求める方法の名前は出てこない。AP の CED（topic 5.5）はこの方法を Candidates Test と呼び、OpenStax Calculus Volume 1（4.3）は同じ手順を名前を付けずに示す（Locating Absolute Extrema over a Closed Interval）。見出しの「候補点テスト」は本プロジェクトの訳語。
定義
閉区間で連続な関数の最大値・最小値を、臨界点と両端での値を比べて求める方法。
Finding the absolute extrema of a continuous function on a closed interval by comparing its values at the critical points and at the endpoints.
