定義
複素数 a + bi に対する a − bi。複素数平面では実軸について対称な点になる。
For a + bi, the number a − bi; in the complex plane it is the mirror image in the real axis.
例文
話し言葉 Multiply top and bottom by 3 + 4i, the complex conjugate of the denominator. 分子と分母に、分母の共役複素数 3 + 4i を掛けよう。
書き言葉・答案 Show that z is a real number if and only if z̄ = z. z が実数であることと z̄ = z が同値であることを示せ。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 記号 z̄ は z bar と読み、the complex conjugate of z とも言う（記号のエントリ complex-conjugate-bar と同じ）。ほかの文字も同じく bar を付けて読む（λ̄ は lambda bar）。
- 「z が実数となる条件」は z̄ = z、「純虚数となる条件」は z̄ = −z かつ z ≠ 0。英語でも同じ式で書く。
- 「共役をとる」は take the conjugate（口頭）。
