例文
話し言葉 Do the horizontal stretch before the shift, or you'll get a different graph. 横の拡大を平行移動より先にしないと、別のグラフになる。
書き言葉・答案 Describe the combination of transformations that takes the graph of y = √x to the graph of y = −2√(x + 3). y = √x のグラフを y = −2√(x + 3) のグラフに移す変換の組合せを説明せよ。

言い間違えやすいところ
- OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は関数のグラフの変換をまとめて行うことを combining transformations と書く（本文 3 件）。線形代数では線形変換の合成（composition）を指す。
- 線形代数では、行列 A の変換のあとに行列 B の変換を行う合成は積 BA に対応し、掛ける順番は行う順番と逆になる（Nicholson 2.3・7.3 は composition と呼ぶ）。
