y = sin(b(x − c)) のグラフが y = sin bx のグラフから x 軸方向に c だけ平行移動していること。その量 c。

例文
話し言葉 Factor out the 2 first: sin(2x − π) is sin 2(x − π/2), so the phase shift is π/2 to the right. まず 2 をくくり出す。sin(2x − π) = sin 2(x − π/2) なので、右に π/2 ずれる。
書き言葉・答案 State the amplitude, period, and phase shift of y = 3 cos(2x + π/3). y = 3 cos(2x + π/3) の振幅・周期・位相のずれを答えよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- horizontal shift（x 軸方向の平行移動）は三角関数に限らないグラフの平行移動の言い方で、OpenStax Algebra and Trigonometry は正弦曲線の説明にも使う。IM Algebra 2（6.15・6.17〜6.19）は phase shift と言わず horizontal translation と書く。
- 学習指導要領解説（数学I）と共通テスト（令和7年度 本試験 数学I 第3問）は、グラフの横のずれを「x 軸方向に p だけ平行移動」と書く（二次関数のグラフ）。
- b をくくり出さずに c を読むのはよくある間違い（sin(2x − π) のずれは π ではなく π/2）。
- 微分方程式（OpenStax Calculus Volume 3 の 7.3 Applications、Volume 2 の 4.5 First-order Linear Equations）では、A sin(ωt + ϕ) の角 ϕ そのものを phase shift と呼ぶ（グラフは左に ϕ/ω ずれる）。Algebra and Trigonometry の phase shift C/B はずれの量そのもので、数の意味が違う。
