正弦曲線

日本の数II では y = sin θ のグラフを「正弦曲線」と呼ぶ。英語の sinusoidal function は cos のグラフや平行移動・拡大したものもまとめて指す。「正弦波」は主に物理の言い方。

定義
y = A sin(Bx − C) + D（または cos の形）で表される関数と、そのグラフ。振幅、周期、位相のずれ、振動の中心線で形が決まる。
A function of the form y = A sin(Bx − C) + D or y = A cos(Bx − C) + D, or its wave-shaped graph. Its shape is set by the amplitude, period, phase shift, and midline.
例文
話し言葉 A sinusoidal function is basically a sine wave that's been stretched and shifted around. 正弦曲線というのは、要するに正弦波を伸ばしたりずらしたりしたもの。
書き言葉・答案 Write an equation of the sinusoidal function with amplitude 2, period π, and midline y = −1. 振幅 2、周期 π、振動の中心線 y = −1 の正弦曲線を表す式を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- sinusoid は名詞、sinusoidal は形容詞。sinusoidal function ／ sinusoidal graph のように名詞の前に置く。
- 周期は 2π/|B|、位相のずれ（エントリ phase-shift）は C ではなく C/B。先に B でくくって y = A sin(B(x − C/B)) + D の形にすると読み取りやすい。
- 振幅は |A|、振動の中心線は y = D（エントリ midline）。
