A statement that follows directly from a theorem that has just been proved, with little or no extra work.
例文
話し言葉 This is really just a corollary of the mean value theorem. これは実は平均値の定理の系にすぎない。
書き言葉・答案 Corollary: If f′(x) = 0 for every x in (a, b), then f is constant on (a, b). 系：区間 (a, b) のすべての x で f′(x) = 0 ならば、f は (a, b) で定数関数である。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 日本語の見出しは 1 字の「系」なので見落としやすい。英文で Corollary とあれば「系」、Lemma なら「補題」。
- 米国式の発音は第 1 音節に強勢（COR-uh-lair-ee。Merriam-Webster: ˈkȯr-ə-ˌler-ē、英国式は kə-ˈrä-lə-rē）。
