定義
f が [a, b] で連続、(a, b) で微分可能なら、f′(c) = (f(b) − f(a))/(b − a) となる c が a と b の間にあるという定理。
If f is continuous on [a, b] and differentiable on (a, b), then f′(c) = (f(b) − f(a))/(b − a) for some c between a and b.
例文
話し言葉 The mean value theorem says that somewhere the tangent slope equals the secant slope. 平均値の定理は、どこかで接線の傾きが割線の傾きに等しくなると言っている。
書き言葉・答案 Verify that f(x) = x² satisfies the hypotheses of the mean value theorem on [0, 2], and find c. f(x) = x² が [0, 2] で平均値の定理の仮定を満たすことを確かめ、c を求めよ。
