A statement accepted as true without proof and used as a starting point from which other results are derived.
例文
話し言葉 This one's an axiom, so we don't prove it. We just take it as given. これは公理なので証明はしない。そういうものとして受け入れる。
書き言葉・答案 Using only the axioms of probability, show that P(∅) = 0. 確率の公理だけを用いて P(∅) = 0 を示せ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- CK-12 Geometry（1.1 Geometry Terms ほか）はユークリッド幾何の公理を postulate と呼ぶ（81 件。axiom は 0 件。エントリ postulate）。
- 用例コーパスでは axiom は話し言葉のほとんどが MIT OCW、書き言葉のほとんどが MIT の講義ノートで、大学の講義寄りの語。
