定義
正しいと認めた事柄（定義・公理・定理・仮定）から、論理の規則に従って結論を導く考え方。前提が正しければ、結論も必ず正しい。
Reasoning that starts from accepted facts such as definitions, postulates, theorems, and given information, and reaches a conclusion by rules of logic. If the starting facts are true, the conclusion must be true.
例文
話し言葉 In a proof, every step has to come from deductive reasoning. "It looks that way in the picture" isn't a reason. 証明では、どのステップも演繹的推論で導かないといけない。「図でそう見える」は理由にならない。
書き言葉・答案 Use deductive reasoning to show that the sum of any two odd integers is even. 演繹的推論を用いて、2 つの奇数の和は偶数であることを示せ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 用例コーパスで deductive reasoning は話し言葉にほとんど出てこず（Khan Academy だけ）、書き言葉には出てこない。IM にも出てこない。CK-12 Geometry では 2.4 Reasoning Types・2.7 Deductive Reasoning に 17 件。
- 数学的帰納法（proof by induction）は、名前に反して演繹的推論による証明である。
- law of detachment と law of syllogism は、演繹的推論の代表的な形に付いた名前。
