定義

ある数が別の数より小さいか、または等しいこと。「x は 5 以下」は x ≦ 5 と書き、5 を含む。

Either less than or equal to another number. The symbol is ≤, so x ≤ 5 includes 5 itself.

例文

話し言葉 If the speed limit is 65, your speed has to be less than or equal to 65. 制限速度が 65 なら、スピードは 65 以下でないといけない。
書き言葉・答案 Find all positive integers n such that 3n + 2 is less than or equal to 11. 3n + 2 が 11 以下となる正の整数 n をすべて求めよ。

言い間違えやすいところ

  • 記号は日本では ≦（共通テスト・センター試験の問題文、学習指導要領解説）、米国の教科書（OpenStax）では ≤。
  • 文章題では「5 以下」を at most 5 や no more than 5 と言う。
  • 「以下」は境の数を含む。less than と訳すと境の数が抜けて「未満」になる（エントリ less-than）。
