定義
a, b, c を整数とする ax + by = c の形の方程式で、整数解を求めるもの。整数解をもつのは c が a と b の最大公約数の倍数のときに限る。
An equation ax + by = c whose coefficients are integers and whose solutions must be integers. It has integer solutions exactly when gcd(a, b) divides c.
例文
話し言葉 For 7x + 4y = 1, one solution is x = −1, y = 2, and every other solution comes from that one. 7x + 4y = 1 の解の 1 つは x = −1, y = 2 で、ほかの解はすべてこれから得られる。

言い間違えやすいところ
- 「不定方程式」を indefinite equation と直訳しない。英語はディオファントスの名前で Diophantine と言い、D は大文字。
- 一般解 x = −1 + 4k, y = 2 − 7k には「k は整数」（where k is an integer）を添える。
