多変数関数を 1 つの変数だけについて微分し、ほかの変数は定数とみなしたもの。
The derivative of a function of several variables with respect to one variable, holding the others constant.
例文
話し言葉 For the partial derivative with respect to x, treat y like a constant. x についての偏導関数では、y を定数とみなす。
書き言葉・答案 Find the partial derivatives f_x and f_y of f(x, y) = x³y² − 2xy. f(x, y) = x³y² − 2xy の偏導関数 f_x と f_y を求めよ。
言い間違えやすいところ
- 記号 ∂ は partial と読む（∂f/∂x は partial f partial x）。del と読むこともある（MIT 18.02、3Blue1Brown）。
- f_x は f sub x と読む。
